The Connaught School WINS National Literacy Award
On the final day of last term, an early Christmas present was delivered to The Connaught School! Headteacher Mrs Abbott was delighted to find a large glass trophy inside, dedicated to The Connaught School for winning Lemos & Crane’s National Literacy Award for 2011.
The award was in recognition of the School’s Double Clubproject, run by Mr Baker and delivered by Mr Coates and coaches from Aldershot Town FC. Double Club was judged by over 10,000 members of the educational website to have been the most effective and innovative Literacy Scheme of the year and the school also received a substantial cash donation towards costs of Double Cluband other Literacy projects in the future.
Mr Baker said, “It’s great for the school to get national recognition for this fantastic sport-inspired literacy project. We’ve enjoyed the whole process and parents and children from the local primary schools have enjoyed coming here too. The feedback has been amazing. It’s great to have so many people working together to improve pupils’ literacy: Aldershot Town FC, Connaught Leisure, The Wado Dojo, The Connaught School and most importantly the children and their parents, have all come together and worked hard and the results speak for themselves. Everybody is talking about Aldershot’s Double Clubnow!”
